Challenged by corrosion in concrete? Meet it at the molecular level!
Traditional chloride protection methods—cathodic protection, barrier coatings, and replacement—are expensive and require continuous servicing or replacement. AQURON 7000 uses colloidal nano silica hydrogel technology that works permanently from within the concrete.
The Technology
Colloidal nano silica particles (5-20 nanometers) penetrate concrete pores and react with pore water, forming a permanent hydrogel 100-200mm deep. This immobilizes existing chlorides, prevents new ingress (34% reduction in ASTM C1202 testing), and eliminates the moisture needed for electrochemical corrosion.
Proven Results: Bledisloe Wharf, Auckland
Scheduled for demolition in 1999 due to severe chloride damage, this 1948-built wharf was treated with AQURON 7000. After 10 years, Beca Consultants confirmed zero ongoing corrosion. Over 20 years later, the wharf remains in active service and is being extended—saving millions in replacement costs.
Key Performance
- Penetrates 100-150mm to reinforcement steel
- 90% permeability reduction (BS EN12390)
- 10+ year field studies show no chloride increase
- Zero VOC, safe for marine environments
Unlike surface coatings that fail when breached, AQURON 7000 becomes part of the concrete matrix permanently—protecting ports, bridges, and coastal infrastructure
