Extending bridge life, one deck at a time
With AQURON Colloidal Nano Silica Hydrogel technology, your bridge infrastructure gains permanent protection outside and inside.
The Problem
Concrete bridge decks face relentless assault — weather exposure, heavy traffic, de-icing salts, and chloride ingress. Moisture penetrates, reinforcing steel corrodes, and concrete spalls. Traditional coatings wear away under traffic. Membranes fail at joints. Maintenance cycles never end.
Critical infrastructure deserves more than temporary surface treatments.
The Solution
AQURON penetrating hydrogels use nano-sized colloidal silica particles (5-25nm) that react with calcium hydroxide deep within the concrete matrix. The result? A permanent, stable hydrogel that penetrates up to 150+ mm — becoming an integral part of the concrete itself.
This creates additional Calcium Silicate Hydrate (C-S-H), the same compound that gives cement its strength and makes the concrete microstructure more tortuous. The treatment cannot be worn away, abraded, or removed. One application. Permanent protection.
Key Benefits for Bridge Infrastructure
Corrosion Protection:
Halts the electrochemical corrosion process by immobilising moisture
Prevents chloride penetration and immobilises existing chlorides
Protects reinforcing steel from the incipient anode syndrome after repairs
Minimal Operational Disruption:
Bridges trafficable within 1-2 hours of treatment
Lane-at-a-time application possible
Night works capability for high-traffic routes
Proven Long-Term Results:
RMS NSW: 4,140m² across 4 bridges — just 23 hours total downtime
All structures still fully functional 9 years later (2024)
No further remediation works required
Environmental & Safety:
Zero VOC — safe for sensitive waterway environments
Non-toxic, non-flammable, waterborne
Introduces no elements not naturally found in concrete
Ideal Applications
New bridge construction — enhanced curing and day-one protection
Existing bridge remediation — arrest deterioration, extend service life
Post-repair protection — prevent corrosion migration to adjacent areas
Proactive maintenance — cost-effective asset preservation programmes
